Event to highlight Chinese mind-body practices

UCI will recognize World Tai Chi and Qigong Day Saturday with free lessons, lectures and information about local classes on campus from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

To top it off, some of the world’s top tai chi and qigong experts will perform. Registration and exhibits begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Tamkin Student Lecture Building courtyard. From 9 to 9:50 a.m. UCI’s founding director of the International Alliance for Mind/Body Signaling and Energy Research, Shin Lin, will speak on the health benefits of the two popular Chinese mind-body practices.

There will be lessons from 10 to 10:30 a.m. and practice from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.

Demonstrations in the arts begin at 11:15 a.m. and end at noon. From there until 1 p.m., there will be a picnic and exhibits available for visitors.

The event is free and open to the public. Parking is free in Lot 83 at Health Sciences Road and Bison Avenue.
