BOYS’ SWIMMING

CORONA DEL MAR — John Kim won the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events in 1 minute, 45.50 seconds and 4:45.83, respectively, helping the Sea Kings edge the Sailors in the Battle of the Bay Thursday.
CdM (4-0) placed first in all but three events. The meet was decided in the final event, the 400 free relay. Newport Harbor was disqualified for jumping early on the third leg. CdM won the event.
The Sea Kings’ Michael Liao won the 100 butterfly (53.44) and 100 breaststroke (59.18). Jared Namba claimed the 100 backstroke (53.99) and 200 individual medley (1:58.91).
For the Sailors, Ikaika Sarme won the 50 freestyle (21.80) and he helped the 200 freestyle relay team to a first-place showing in 1:27.97. Newport Harbor’s Blake Kelly placed first in the 100 freestyle (48.09).

CORONA DEL MAR — Kelsey Larson placed first in the 200-yard individual medley and 100 backstroke in 2 minutes, 12.54 seconds and 1:02.09, respectively, as the Sea Kings earned their first victory of the season Thursday.
The meet came down to the final event, the 400 freestyle relay. Newport Harbor, like the boys team, was disqualified.
CdM’s Sarah Furgatch won the 500 freestyle (5:07.64) and 100 breaststroke (1:08.22). Nicky Lagle claimed the 100 butterfly (1:01.21).
Newport Harbor’s Nicolina McCall took first in the 100 freestyle (56.74). She helped the 200 freestyle relay team win in 1:44.35. The other three swimmers were Britney Harris, Sarah Wilkey and Kate Klippert.

TUSTIN — Senior Camden Nicholson shot a two-under-par 34 to earn medalist honors for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League match at Tustin Ranch Golf Club Thursday.
Brian Mull (36), Josh Starnes (39), John Davenport (40) and Mike Moorhead (42) also contributed for CdM (12-2, 6-0 in league) against the defending league champions.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Ericson Klein shot even-par 36 for the Sailors in the Sunset League match at Mile Square Golf Course Thursday.
Mychael Clark, Kawika Morse and Travis Russell all shot 39, while Zach Eddy carded a 40 for Newport Harbor (12-3-1, 4-1 in league).

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Ryan Knapp shot a one-over-par 37 to earn medalist honors for the Eagles in an Orange Coast League match at Mile Square Golf Course Thursday.
Jake Knapp shot a 38, followed by Storm Hagen (39), Ryan Burns (41) and Jordan Young (45) for Estancia (9-3, 7-0 in league).

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Sophomores Craig McKennon and Greg Brostek swept in No. 2 doubles action, helping the Sailors claim all nine points in doubles in a Sunset League match Thursday.
Daron Arnold and Cameron Chase won at No. 1 doubles, improving to 15-0 in league sets for Newport (8-3, 5-0 in league).

IRVINE — Juniors Pierce Stemler, Matt Fisher and David Fink each won two out of three singles sets for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League match Thursday.
In doubles, sophomores Joel Ishii and Ismean Aboubakare won, 6-0, 6-3 before being substituted out for CdM (11-3, 4-1 in league).

CORONA DEL MAR — Weston Nielsen had 16 kills and Dylan Davis added 15 in the Sea Kings’ 25-21, 25-20, 25-21 Pacific Coast League win Thursday.
Connor Bannan had 29 assists for CdM (15-5, 4-0 in league).

CORONA DEL MAR — Junior attacker Ryan Mix finished with four goals and two assists to lead the Sea Kings, ranked No. 1 in the CIF Southern Section by LaxPower.com, in a nonleague game Thursday.
Noah Molnar and David Kidushim each recorded four goals for the Sea Kings (12-0), who avenged last year’s semifinal loss to St. Margaret’s in the Orange County Championship tournament.

IRVINE — Senior attacker Elizabeth Cramer recorded five goals for the Sailors in a nonleague game Thursday.
Amanda Oleysky had three goals and Shannon Rohan added two goals and an assist for Newport (8-4).

BALDWIN PARK — Sophomore PJ Maloney went six innings, striking out six and allowing six hits and one run in the Mustangs’ nonleague game Thursday.
Justin Miller went two for four with three runs batted in. He broke the game open in the top of the sixth inning with a three-run double, giving Costa Mesa a 5-1 lead.
Seven players had at least two hits for the Mustangs.
Costa Mesa (12-5) returns to Orange Coast League action today at Godinez at 3:15 p.m. The Mustangs are in first place in league at 5-0.

LA HABRA — The Mustangs were held to just one hit against the Heralds in their opening pool-play game of the Whittier Christian tournament Thursday.
Alex Krohnfeldt had a single for Costa Mesa (10-10). Pitcher Kira Mitani allowed just six hits and struck out four, but Whittier Christian (14-2) got all its runs with two outs.
The Heralds are ranked No. 2 in the CIF Southern Section Division V coaches’ poll.
