Anthony Tsai banked in a game-winning three-foot shot to lead the undefeated Pacers to a 40-39 win over the Jayhawks in the NJB championship game of the Newport-Mesa fifth- and sixth-grade boys’ division last week.

With 16 seconds left and the Pacers trailing, 39-38, Cameron Hook drove the right side of the lane, as the Jayhawks defense collapsed on him. Hook went up for what looked to be a shot, but instead whipped a pass to Tsai.

The Pacers (10-0) entered the title game, averaging 40 points per game, while the Jayhawks (8-2) had been allowing just 25 points per game.

The Pacers overcame a five-point deficit in the final two minutes.

Parker Reposa was a force inside for the Jayhawks, while teammate Brady Shockey led the team on fast breaks and converted on several key baskets.

Hook, Tsai and Chad Redfearn were highly instrumental in the Pacers’ big-time comeback.

Coach Scott Hook said that scoring was distributed between all the players during the season.

The Pacers also included: Jack Denning, Shane McCartney, Ben Resnick, Drew Raguse, Braxton Andry and Sam Woodward. Wayne Redfearn was an assistant coach for the Pacers.
