Sea Kings advance to semifinals

IRVINE — Senior goalie Kate Baldoni recorded 11 saves to help lead the No. 1-seeded Corona del Mar High girls’ water polo team to a 9-7 win over Rosary in a quarterfinal of the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs Friday night at Beckman.
The Sea Kings (28-1) trailed, 4-1, in the second quarter, but rallied with contributions from Kate Berry, Heather Van Hiel, Leslee Kaczmarek and Elise Molnar. The four seniors scored two goals each.
Senior Victoria Kennedy added a goal. Baldoni, Van Hiel and Kaczmarek had two assists each, while Kennedy recorded three steals. Berry, Van Hiel and Kaczmarek had two steals each.
Rosary dropped to 15-13.
Corona del Mar will face Foothill in the semifinals Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Irvine High. The Knights eliminated No. 4-seeded Los Alamitos, 7-6, Friday night.
The championship match is scheduled for Saturday at 8 p.m. at Irvine High.
