Local rallies urge no war with Iran

Demonstrators gathered in area cities Thursday evening to urge the United States to avoid war with Iran.
Protesters rallied at the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Edinger Avenue in Huntington Beach at the same time that others gathered at Laguna Beach’s Main Beach and elsewhere to oppose any military escalation in the wake of the killing of a top Iranian general in a U.S. airstrike and subsequent Iranian missile attacks on bases in Iraq that house American troops.
Almost 50 years after Congress passed the War Powers Act to keep a check on presidents’ military actions, lawmakers still struggle to use it.
The protests, coordinated by MoveOn, a political action committee, were among hundreds of similar events held across the country Thursday.
