Obama job rating hits 16-month high after convention

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Is it the Bill Clinton bounce?
President Obama appears to be getting a lift from the Democratic National Convention, with his job approval rating hitting a 16-month high, according to the latest Gallup survey.
The three-day tracking poll, in the field each of the days of the Democrats’ convention in Charlotte, shows 52% now approve of Obama’s performance, a one-day change of three percentage points, and up nine points since the end of the Republican National Convention.
Obama’s job rating hasn’t been as high since the weeks after he announced the successful special forces raid that killed terrorist leader Osama bin Laden.
In the seven-day Gallup tracking poll testing Obama against Republican nominee Mitt Romney, there has been less movement. Obama now leads 48% to 45%, compared with 47% to 46% a day before.
