To the editor: I very much appreciate Kenneth Turan’s article about my organization’s work on film preservation. (“Reels of classic films tend to melt into goo; philanthropist David W. Packard won’t let that happen,” March 5)
I am a little worried, however, that what I said about Steve Jobs (about movies not being meant to be seen on 21/2-inch screens, intended really as a joke) may give the wrong impression. Jobs came very often to our Stanford Theatre in Palo Alto, and he definitely understood that movies are wonderful in beautiful theatres.
We remained friends despite the small screen on the iPhone.
