Letters: Will Supt. Deasy stay or go?

Re “Fates of Deasy, LAUSD in the balance,” Oct. 26

Los Angeles Unified School District Supt. John Deasy may resign in February, giving up a $330,000 salary. Deputy Supt. Jaime Aquino is resigning in December. The message they’re sending to everyone, especially students, is that when the going gets tough, quit.

Every day, year after year, thousands of teachers come to school and teach despite having to follow policies and obey administrators they may not agree with. We work in spite of non-supportive parents and students who are not always angels.

We teach because that’s what we do. We do not give up on kids.

So Deasy is threatening to resign?

My advice to the district’s Board of Education: Say thank you and tell him to go right ahead. This would save money because the board wouldn’t need to negotiate severing his contract, as it would if Deasy were fired.

In fact, Deasy should have been let go after he botched the Miramonte Elementary School scandal, dislocating and upsetting parents, teachers and, most important, the children.
