Caroline Kennedy confirmed as ambassador to Japan

WASHINGTON – The Senate late Wednesday confirmed the nomination of Caroline Kennedy as the next U.S. ambassador to Japan.
Kennedy, a prominent author and philanthropist and the daughter of President Kennedy, was nominated for the position by President Obama in July.
The Senate confirmed Kennedy’s nomination without a vote by consent.
Last month, during her confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Kennedy told the panel of her father’s efforts to improve relations between the two countries after World War II.
“I would be humbled to carry forward his legacy in a small way, and represent the powerful bonds that unite our two democratic societies,” she told the panel.
