Police arrived on the scene at Alamo and Tapo Streets, just before 8 p.m. and were searching for clues as to what caused the crash.
A large truck belonging to the grocery store chain Fresh & Easy could be seen near to the child’s mangled bike.
The truck was believed to be pulling out of a nearby store parking lot when it struck the child, Lt. Stephanie Shannon told KTLA-TV Channel 5.
“It’s a tragic accident,” Shannon told the Ventura County Star.
The young victim was pronounced dead at the scene. He had been riding his bike with an 8-year-old friend, who was not injured.
