Two hikers reported lost Saturday night in the rugged backcountry of northeast San Diego County were found before dawn Sunday “thirsty, hungry, but in good condition,” the Sheriff’s Department said.
The two called Saturday night to report being lost near the Cuyamaca Peak area in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park near Julian, authorities said.
Some 26 searchers from the department’s search-and-rescue team, the San Diego Mountain Rescue Team and the Border Patrol searched through the night.
At 4:45 a.m., the two 23-year-old men were found. “After giving them food and water, the hikers were guided out of the area by search teams,” according to the Sheriff’s Department.
