Six people were shot -- one fatally -- after a drive-by shooting outside a Halloween party in Sacramento, authorities said.
Sacramento police said they were called at 1:37 a.m. Sunday to a business that had been rented for a Halloween event.
At the scene in the 1800 block of Del Paso Boulevard, officers found that six people had been shot, with a seventh person suffering from shrapnel wounds.
A man in his late 20s was declared dead at the scene. The Sacramento Bee reported that the five others -- a mix of men and women in their 20s and 30s -- were shot in the lower extremities and expected to survive.
Someone driving a sedan south along Del Paso Boulevard is suspected of opening fire on the crowd, police said.
“The party ended and people started coming out of the front door,” Michele Gigante, a spokeswoman for Sacramento police, told the Sacramento Bee. “We’re still trying to figure out a motive, but it may be a straight-up drive-by.”
