Strong winds, low humidity expected to raise fire danger Wednesday

Weather forecasters are warning of fire danger Wednesday because of strong winds combined with low humidity.
The National Weather Service in Oxnard has issued fire weather watches for Wednesday morning through the afternoon in Ventura County valleys, in mountains of Ventura and Los Angeles counties including the Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area, and in the Santa Clarita and San Fernando valleys.
Meteorologist David Sweet said gusts of up to 45 mph are expected in the mountains.
“You combine those gusty winds with the minimum relative humidity in the afternoon ... and you have a high fire danger,” Sweet said.
Winds in the valleys will not be quite as strong, he said, but they still could produce gusts up to 40 mph.
Winds are generally at their peak during the mid-morning, and relative humidity is at its lowest in the mid-afternoon, Sweet said.
