Riverside County authorities have arrested two burglary suspects they say tried to make their getaway in a canoe.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department says a Lake Elsinore resident heard glass breaking at a neighbor’s property early Tuesday and saw someone running away.
A sheriff’s helicopter crew spotted two people get into a canoe and use shovels to paddle out into the lake.
When the men realized they’d been spotted, they paddled back to shore, pulled the canoe into some bushes and ran off.
Sheriff’s deputies found the two suspectes and arrested them.
Authorities say the canoe contained burglary tools and stolen items, including three guns.
