Big rig hauling holiday packages flips in Bay Area, killing driver

Reporting from Danville, Calif. — A big rig hauling packages for the U.S. Postal Service flipped over east of San Francisco early Monday, killing the driver and spilling the load across a highway.
The California Highway Patrol tells Bay Area news station KNTV-TV that the truck went off Interstate 680 in Danville, then struck a freeway sign before flipping on its side.
CHP Sgt. Oscar Pacheco says it’s not clear what caused the driver to go off the road. He died at a hospital, and his identity wasn’t released.
Postal Service spokesman Gus Ruiz says the packages were heading to a San Jose postal facility. The agency says Monday is the busiest mailing and shipping day of the year for holiday packages.
