Firefighters found one person dead Monday after a fire ripped through a second-floor apartment in Panorama City, authorities said.
The fire was reported about 8:39 a.m. in the 8800 block of Tobias Avenue, said Erik Scott, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
As firefighters gained access to the second-floor fire, “they found one unit fully involved in flames,” Scott said.
Thirty-nine firefighters were able to contain the fire in 14 minutes.
Firefighters found one person dead inside the apartment, the identity of whom, including gender, was not immediately available. At least one other person was injured.
Some traffic lanes, stretching into Rayen Street, were blocked off as the investigation into the fire continued Monday with help from arson investigators, according to Scott.
The apartment building is 52 years old, he added.
