A 20-year-old Anaheim man allegedly confessed to stabbing his mother to death on Sunday, less than a month after law enforcement authorities said he was released from a mental health institution.
Gabriel Ramirez, Jr. called police shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday and told the dispatcher that he had stabbed his mother and to please send paramedics, according to Anaheim police Lt. Tim Schmidt.
When paramedics and police arrived at the apartment on South Ninth Street, Ramirez “was waiting for us and his upper half was covered in blood,” Schmidt said.
His mother was found lying in her bedroom, unconscious and bleeding from several stab wounds. She was taken to a hospital, where she died.
“Ramirez has a history of mental health issues and has been in and out of mental health institutions,” Schmidt said. “Within the last month he had been released.”
Ramirez was arrested and booked on suspicion of murder.
