How sweet! Touring the 2012 White House gingerbread house
- Share via
This year’s gingerbread White House features the first lady’s kitchen garden -- fitting, since the 1,500-square-foot vegetable garden on the South Lawn of the White House is the first to be planted there since Eleanor Roosevelt’s victory garden.
Executive pastry chef Bill Yosses and his team spent more than six weeks making the gingerbread house, using 175 pounds of gingerbread and 50 pounds of white chocolate, reported Obama Foodorama blogger Eddie Gehman Kohan.
Filled with winter vegetables molded out of marzipan, the candy garden features kale, endive, turnips, cabbage, radishes, sweet potatoes and bok choy, with row markers, hoop houses and a beehive to boot.
