The long-hoped-for OutKast reunion finally materialized (in a way) Friday night with the release of Frank Ocean’s “Pink Matter” remix, which features appearances by both members of the influential Atlanta rap duo. The song premiered on hip-hop journalist Elliott Wilson’s East Village Radio show, and though we can’t post it here due to some naughty language, you can hear it now on Big Boi’s SoundCloud page.
Last year Big Boi revealed that he was supposed to join Andre 3000 on the original version of “Pink Matter,” a slow-rolling cut from Ocean’s Grammy-nominated “Channel Orange” album. Yet plans reportedly changed after Andre 3000 objected to OutKast’s re-teaming on a record by another artist. (The group’s most recent disc came out in 2006.)
What changed his mind? It’s unclear. More OutKast action may be on the horizon, though: In a tweet early this month Big Boi suggested that he’s due to appear on a forthcoming remix of T.I.’s “Sorry,” which also contains a verse by Andre 3000.
