Coachella 2013: Lindsay Lohan, Kristen Stewart among stars spotted

Before Lindsay Lohan acceded to a judge’s orders, agreeing to enter 90 days of court-mandated lock-down rehab in New York on May 1, the struggling ingenue made an unusual detour: the backstage artists’ village at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio. In a cordoned-off enclosure that has provided a fertile environment for every stripe of rock ‘n’ roll excess over the years, Lohan was spotted kicking it Friday night with her 16-year-old brother, Cody, prior to Blur’s 10 p.m. set.

But Lilo was far from the only celebrity caught Coa-chillin’ over the festival’s first weekend.

Also on Friday, in matching his and hers hoodies, rock-loving couple Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were seen holding hands and swigging Gatorade during Jurassic 5’s reunion set at the Outdoor Stage. In a separate but not unrelated development, model Liberty Ross -- ex of “Snow White and the Huntsman” director Rupert Sanders, with whom Stewart was caught cheating on Pattinson last year -- was seen at the Diesel + Edun Studio Africa event in nearby La Quinta the same evening with rocker-Samaritan Bono.

Blame it on the shimmering desert heat or the woozy delirium of so much music being cranked at such high volume in an oasis-like setting, but around sundown, a strange natural phenomenon occurs. Festivalgoers have been known to take on a golden aura -- the buzz of their early beers coming on in the cooling moments of early evening, perhaps?

Still, even with so many people at the Empire Polo Club (but especially in the upper VIP deck) looking so gorgeous and sun-kissed in that inimitable Coachellan way, a grab bag of eclectic famous people still made their presences at the fest felt.

Here was “True Blood’s” Alexander Skarsgard two-fisting beers in the VIP section. Over there was George Clooney’s girlfriend Stacy Kiebler in cut-off short shorts. Leonardo DiCaprio turned up in a tweed page-boy cap, and German model-actress Diane Kruger could be seen in booty shorts and a pair of knee-high black suede boots that could have been hijacked from one of “The Three Musketeers.”

On Saturday, Emma Roberts posted a photograph of herself wearing heart-shaped sunglasses and tweeted, “The fun begins!” with a Coachella hashtag.

Others on hand included Victoria’s Secret lingerie model Alessandra Ambrossio, an uncharacteristically somber-looking Joe and Nick Jonas, “Glee” star Chris Colfer, Jared Leto (with a special orange all-access bracelet), Brit R&B; chanteuse Rita Ora, former “90210” actress Jessica Lowndes, pals Melanie Griffith and Danny DeVito, Josh Henderson, Kellan Lutz, skateboard legend Tony Hawk, Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland, Clint Eastwood, Rumer Willis, Hillary Duff, Connor (son of Tom) Cruise and Tommy Lee.
