Chart news: ‘Furious 7’ is No. 1 pretty much everywhere

Look at any list of popular entertainment properties this week and you’ll likely see one word: “furious.”
Days after winning a second weekend as the country’s biggest box-office draw, the muscle car movie “Furious 7” expanded its domination to music with No. 1 showings by the film’s soundtrack album and a hit single by the rapper Wiz Khalifa.
The “Furious 7” album, featuring songs from T.I., Juicy J, Wale and DJ Snake, among others, sold 45,000 copies in the week that ended Sunday, according to Nielsen Music. That’s a relatively low number -- lower, in fact, than the number notched by the pop-punk band All Time Low, whose “Future Hearts” entered the Billboard 200 at No. 2 on sales of 75,000 copies.
But songs from “Furious 7” were streamed more than 11 million times on services like Spotify, more than enough to lift the album to the top spot on Billboard’s flagship tally, which incorporates both sales and streams.
Streaming activity similarly helped power the ascent of “See You Again,” Khalifa’s tribute to “Furious” star Paul Walker, who died in a car accident in 2013.
In addition to selling 464,000 downloads (the most of any song this year), “See You Again” was streamed 25 million times last week, Nielsen said. On Spotify alone, the song racked up 21.9 million streams, a new record for the most listens in one week.
Those figures drove the song to No. 1 on the Hot 100, where it replaced Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk” after 14 weeks. Ronson’s hit is now tied with six other songs for the second-longest run atop the Hot 100.
The song with the longest stay? “One Sweet Day” by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men, which held at No. 1 for 16 weeks in 1995 and 1996.
