Watch Bruce Springsteen cover Suicide in ‘Dream Baby Dream’ video

To formally close out their 2012-13 Wrecking Ball tour, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have recorded a benedictory new studio version of “Dream Baby Dream,” the 1979 single from the New York punk-electronic duo Suicide, and posted an accompanying video using clips shot on the road.

Springsteen also wrote a characteristically passionate and eloquent note to those on the group’s email distribution list “to thank our friends and fans for the love and support we’ve received over the past year and a half.

“To all the tramps and travelers who exposed themselves night after night to the long flights, the long drives, the long queueing, the rain, the sleeplessness in order to inspire and fuel us from band center, we appreciate it,” Springsteen wrote. “To all of you who were there along the way, we send out our mightiest and most heartfelt thanks. You have reignited in us a great passion for what we do. We’ll do our best to honor it.”

Not that the E Streeters are going into cold storage for an extended period. On Nov. 6, the group will take part in the Stand Up for Heroes benefit in New York City, then after taking the rest of the year off, they’ll head out for a tour of Australia and New Zealand that starts Feb. 7.
