Cal marching band adds brassy muscle to Coldplay’s Super Bowl show

Beyoncé may have generated the biggest response for her performance alongside Coldplay and Bruno Mars at the Super Bowl 50 halftime show on Sunday, but there was another musical act on the bill that drew the attention of college sports fans and Bay Area locals.
The University of California Marching Band was a surprise addition to the starry show, adding some brief but brassy muscle to Coldpay’s anthemic 2011 single “Paradise” at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.
The Golden Bears of Berkeley -- decked out in pink and gold -- were in full strength at the gig, with around 200 members taking the field to back Chris Martin and his bandmates, who were also given an assist from Gustavo Dudamel and Youth Orchestra Los Angeles.
