The Film Independent Spirit Awards are doubling down on hosts this year, enlisting Fred Armisen and Kristen Bell to emcee the freewheeling beachside ceremony.
The “Portlandia” co-creator and the “House of Lies” actress will preside over the first live broadcast of the Spirit Awards since 2010. Now in its 30th year, the show will air Saturday, Feb. 21, at 2 p.m. PST on IFC (which is also home to “Portlandia”).
“The only thing better than having a great host for the Spirit Awards is having two great hosts,” Film Independent President Josh Welsh said in a statement.
Among Spirit Awards contenders, Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s “Birdman” leads the pack with six nominations, followed by Richard Linklater’s “Boyhood,” Dan Gilroy’s “Nightcrawler” and Ava DuVernay’s “Selma” with five apiece.
The Spirit Awards are traditionally handed out in a tent on the beach in Santa Monica the day before the Oscars. Previous hosts include Patton Oswalt, John Waters, Samuel L. Jackson and Andy Samberg.
