Roy Hargrove at the Catalina Jazz Club

JAZZ
Midway through a lengthy run of club dates, trumpeter Roy Hargrove began his career as part of the Wynton Marsalis-led crew of “Young Lions” in the late ‘80s, but his tastes grew intriguingly more difficult to pin down as his career progressed. In addition to contributing to recordings by Erykah Badu and D’Angelo, Hargrove has also led a funk and hip-hop-informed RH Factor and an Afro-Cuban ensemble, Crisol. For this show he’ll be equally free-flowing with a nimble quintet. Catalina Jazz Club, 6725 Sunset Blvd., L.A. 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Thu.-Sat., 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Sun. $25-$35.
