Golden Globes 2013: Follow the awards live on Twitter

When Ricky Gervais hosted the Golden Globes last year, he noted that “the Golden Globes are just like the Oscars but without all that esteem.” He then went on to say that the Globes are to the Oscars what Kim Kardashian is to Kate Middleton: “A bit louder, a bit trashier, a bit drunker and more easily bought. Allegedly. Nothing’s been proved,” he said.
What new hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have to say about the hand that feeds them remains to be seen, as the 70th annual Golden Globe Awards are set to take place Sunday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. But when you have two comedians at the helm, anything can happen.
The show starts at 5 p.m. Pacific (8 p.m. Eastern) on NBC, with the red carpet officially starting at 2:30 p.m. Pacific -- though don’t expect to see much major star wattage till 4 p.m., when the televised pre-show begins. Steven Spielberg‘s “Lincoln” leads all film nominees with a record seven nominations, including best dramatic film, director and acting nods for Daniel Day-Lewis, Tommy Lee Jones and Sally Field. “Lincoln” also topped Thursday’s Academy Award nominations with 12.
Other dramatic films nominees at the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. event include Quentin Tarantino‘s spaghetti western “Django Unchained,” Ben Affleck‘s Iranian hostage crisis film “Argo,” Kathryn Bigelow‘s account of the search for Osama bin Laden in “Zero Dark Thirty” and Ang Lee‘s shipwreck epic “Life of Pi.”
“The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,” “Les Miserables,” “Moonrise Kingdom,” “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen” and “Silver Linings Playbook” are the best comedy or musical nominees.

On the TV side, HBO’s “Game Change” and “The Girl,” BBC‘s period piece “The Hour,” History Channel‘s “Hatfields & McCoys” and USA Network‘s “Political Animals” are in the running for best TV miniseries or movie.
In the comedy or musical category, “The Big Bang Theory,” “Episodes,” “Girls” and “Smash” are up against reigning TV comedy winner “Modern Family.”
And in the TV drama field, “Breaking Bad,” “Boardwalk Empire,” “Downton Abbey: Season 2” and “The Newsroom” are up against last year’s winner, “Homeland.” “Downton Abbey’s” first season took home the Golden Globe for best miniseries, but the “Masterpiece Classic” series has been reclassified.
