AT&T has announced the Sony Xperia ion Android smartphone will begin selling June 24.
The phone will be available to consumers for $99 with a two-year contract. It runs on the AT&T 4G LTE network and will run Android’s Gingerbread, which is outdated by two more-recent versions of the operating system.
The Xperia ion comes with a 4.6-inch screen that plays HD video at 720p. And it can connect and play its content on HDTVs through an HDMI cable.
The phone features a 12-megapixel camera, billed as Fast Capture for its quick 1.5-second launch time and shoots video in 1080p. The phone’s front camera shoots 720p.
AT&T also boasts the phone’s near-field communication technology that will allow it to interact with SmartTags, which are essentially the same thing as the Samsung TecTiles, which were announced Wednesday.
The Sony smartphone comes with 16 GBs of internal storage and has a slot to support up to 32 GBs.
We’re going to try to get our hands on this thing and review it, but in the meantime, check out this video AT&T has put together about the Xperia ion.
