Scene change complete for Paul Muni’s onetime Encino home

An Encino residence once owned by Oscar-winning actor Paul Muni has sold for $2.7 million.

Located in the Amestoy Estates area, the home came on the market for the first time in more than four decades in April with an asking price of $3.495 million. Before the recent sale, it last went for $100,000 in 1971.

Built in 1941 and expanded over the years, the Georgian-style residence is entered through a foyer with leaded-glass windows and a coffered ceiling. The single-story residence includes a den, a chef’s kitchen, a breakfast room, nine bedrooms and nine bathrooms in 9,080 square feet.

Among features is a two-story library, a pine-paneled study and a sunroom set under tempered glass. The formal floor plan also has a media room, a gym and an office.

Outdoors, relaxed grounds of more than three quarters of an acre contain formal landscaping, a sports court and a swimming pool with a spa. Above the three-car garage, a guest apartment adds an additional en-suite, a kitchen and a living room with a fireplace.

Muni, who died in 1967 at the age of 71, starred in such 1930s films as “Scarface,” “Black Fury” and “The Story of Louis Pasteur”; he won an Academy Award for best actor in the latter film. He relocated from Encino to Montecito after retirement.
