Southwest Airlines offers double Rapid Rewards points for flights

Southwest Airlines said Monday it will double points on all U.S. travel for members of its frequent flier program for flights booked before May 15.
The Dallas-based carrier made the announcement on its website and also revealed that Grand Rapids, Mich., will be the next AirTran Airways city to be converted to Southwest service.

“Members will receive 12 points (instead of six) for each dollar spent on Wanna Get Away Fares, 20 points (instead of ten) for each dollar spent on Anytime Fares, and 24 points (instead of 12) for each dollar spent on Business Select Fares,” the airline said.
In addition, AirTran service at Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids will end Aug. 10. Southwest flights from Grand Rapids to Baltimore/Washington, Denver, Orlando, Fla.; and St. Louis will begin Aug. 11.
Southwest Airlines acquired AirTran Airways in 2011 for $1.4 billion.
