WASHINGTON -- President Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney face off Tuesday night in their second presidential debate. The event is being held at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y., and moderated by CNN’s Candy Crowley.
Faced with a town hall format, the candidates find themselves at another crossroads.
Obama, after his poor performance in the first debate, lost his footing in the polls, faced doubts from fellow Democrats and admitted that he can do better in the future, but nonetheless feels “fabulous.” Romney, on the other hand, has felt the benefits of his performance in the polls, and in his campaign’s pocketbook.
Both candidates are looking to capitalize off last week’s vice presidential debate between Joe Biden and Paul D. Ryan, which ended with plenty for both Democrats and Republicans to cheer about.

On Tuesday night, Romney is looking to continue riding his newfound momentum all the way to election day, while Obama will reportedly point toward improving economic indicators as validation of his first term in office.
The biggest question remaining isn’t the degree to which Crowley will involve herself in the proceedings, the thought of which scares both campaigns, but which Obama will show up – the one of “hope and change” or the one with the bowed head and the unconvincing tone.
