‘Up’ director Pete Docter’s ‘greatest adventure’

Following wins for “Wall-E” last year and “Ratatouille” in 2008, Pixar scored its third consecutive Oscar in this category for “Up,” a colorful fantasy adventure about a widowed curmudgeon (voiced by Ed Asner) and a young Wilderness Explorer (Jordan Nagai) who embark on an airborne voyage to South America with the help of 20,622 helium balloons.
“Boy, never did I dream that making a flip book out of my third-grade math book would lead to this,” said director and co-screenwriter Pete Docter, who accepted the award. “Thanks so much to Disney and Pixar Animation for believing in this oddball movie.”
The filmmaker thanked his family, including his children and his “amazing” wife, Amanda. “You guys are my greatest adventure.”
