How to refer to British ships
The Sept. 6 Travel section contained a correction that referred to the names of two British warships as the HMS Roberts and the HMS Ramillies. If you were to write out, or at least speak, the full names of those ships it would come out thus: Her Majesty’s Ship Roberts and Her Majesty’s Ship Ramillies. In my view, the correct way is to never use said article to modify them. They are simply HMS Roberts and HMS Ramillies.
