Have a seat -- if you can find one

Japanese fashion designer A Bathing Ape’s update of the classic Eames fiberglass shell chair has been all over the design blogs lately. The seats come in pink, blue and green and are underscored with the designer’s streetwear camouflage pattern. But try to learn more details -- like how you buy one -- and details are scarce. Representatives at A Bathing Ape’s Melrose Avenue store, Bape, said they had no word on when -- or if -- the chair will be available in the United States (though they did say it should retail for “somewhere around $500”). Frank Novak, whose company Modernica is manufacturing the Bape chairs, said he was getting calls from as far away as Australia. “The story just blew up,” he said. Even Novak could offer no additional details, but he did direct customer inquiries to websupport @modernica.net.
