More than 1,000 claims seeking about $2.3 million have been filed against CertifiChecks Inc., a Dayton, Ohio, gift certificate company that filed for bankruptcy protection in April.
Only about $279,000 is available to pay claims and administrative costs. The deadline for seeking compensation from the company was Tuesday.
CertifiChecks’ gift certificates were often used to promote local restaurants and retailers and were sold to thousands of businesses and individuals nationwide.
