A Fullerton man was convicted Tuesday of drowning his 6-year-old son in a bathtub after learning that his wages would be garnished to pay support to his ex-wife and the boy.
Gideon Walter Omondi, 38, was convicted of first-degree murder for the September 2006 death of his son, Richie, who was spending the weekend with Omondi at his Fullerton apartment.
According to prosecutors, Omondi filled a tub with water, drowned his son and then placed him on a bed under the covers.
Two hours later, Omondi went to Fullerton police and told them he had killed his son, prosecutors said.
Omondi faces 32 years to life in prison. He pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, and the sanity phase of the trial is set to begin today.
