CALIFORNIA BRIEFING / MONTEREY PARK

Monterey Park police Monday were seeking the driver of a big rig that crashed into a home late Sunday, heavily damaging both the house and the truck.
The lone resident of the house in the 500 block of Casuda Canyon Drive, near Highlands Park, was not injured when the truck ripped through her bedroom about 9 p.m. and ended up in a side yard, said Monterey Park Police Lt. Jess Alvarado.
“Luckily, she was mopping her kitchen floor at that time,” Alvarado said.
The home, which suffered extensive damage, was red-tagged and the woman was displaced, he added.
Police said a witness saw the truck swerving to avoid a motorist on Corporate Center Drive before veering into the home.
“We assume [the driver] ran from the wreckage,” Alvarado said. Anyone with information is asked to call Monterey Park police at (626) 307-1238.
