An explosion involving compressed natural gas sent three men to the hospital, two with severe burns, Monday afternoon.
The explosion occurred at 4:15 p.m. in an alleyway by California Linen Services on California Boulevard. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the explosion but said the injured men were either fueling a vehicle or filling a storage tank at the time of the incident. The injured were taken to Huntington Hospital in Pasadena, according to Lisa Derderian, a Fire Department spokeswoman.
“It could have been a lot worse,” given that there was little pedestrian traffic in the area of the explosion, Derderian said.
