I enjoyed Reed Johnson’s social commentary in Sunday’s Calendar [“Scarcity Culture,” Jan. 4] except for his use of the term “mind-numbing soft rock” when referring to the 1970s. I understand why he used the phrase, but I didn’t much like it.
First, what numbs your mind may excite mine. Second, it’s hard to make a serious case that society’s ills can be laid at the feet of the Little River Band or John Denver.
