Dreams of China

LAS VEGAS — At a campus that dwarfs West Hollywood’s Pacific Design Center, the World Market Center Las Vegas closed its winter show Friday, ending a leg-cramp-inducing exhibition of new home furnishings from more than 1,500 manufacturers. One standout was the Franz Collection, a marriage of art nouveau-inspired designs realized with ancient techniques. Artist Francis Chen launched the line six years ago to reinvigorate traditional Chinese porcelain. Now his firm has partnered with avant garde Parisian jeweler Jean Boggio, who also has created tableware for Baccarat. Boggio’s wildly imaginative lighting, chairs and cabinets for Franz, above, were clad with porcelain relief panels depicting intricate botanical patterns. The Dreams of China tea service came in a boldly graphic red, white and black. The Extraordinary Garden Sideboard, left, was tiled in glazed blue porcelain, and the Xiang Tea Table, with a glass top floating over an elephant base in matte black porcelain, had echoes of Wedgwood basalt ware.
