Jon Meacham’s review of several Lincoln books (“Abe, Honestly,” Feb. 1) points out that Lincoln was really “just one of us” and so another Lincoln might emerge. Meacham also cautions against idolatry of our leaders.
His review should be required reading for newsroom occupants and the editorial board at the L.A. Times. Collectively they have anointed President Obama as the new Lincoln and FDR wrapped into one and have engaged in idolatry for him, a living person no less, since the primary campaigns began in 2007.
