I’m an old guy. Classical music is the only kind I like. So I know the standard etiquette, and I confess that I look down a little on people who applaud between movements.
But not so long ago, I went to a concert at the Disney, and when lots of people applauded after a first movement, I thought, “Hey, that’s great, this means that there are all sorts of people here tonight that are relatively new to the appreciation of the classics.” And that’s what we need, conventional etiquette be damned.
