Leading contributors: Sophomore Austin Hedges went three for three with one run batted in and junior Bret Dahlson had a run-scoring double for JSerra, ranked No. 25 in the Southland by The Times. Only four of the seven runs given up by Santa Margarita senior pitcher Robert Kelly were earned. Kelly struck out five and walked one in six innings for the No. 9 Eagles.
The scoop: Pitching against his former teammates, JSerra starter Joe Kurrasch (3-1) gave up seven hits over five scoreless innings. The senior left-hander, who transferred from Santa Margarita after his sophomore year, struck out seven and did not walk a batter.
Why it matters: The Lions maintained a share of first place in the Trinity League alongside top-ranked Santa Ana Mater Dei. The league rivals play Monday at JSerra and Wednesday at Mater Dei.
Records: Santa Margarita 7-5, 3-2; JSerra 8-4, 4-1.
