Two men were critically injured Tuesday when their small plane plunged into the ocean about 50 yards off Malibu, just east of the Malibu Pier, Los Angeles County Fire Department officials said.
The victims were pulled from the ocean after the crash occurred about 5:15 p.m. and airlifted to a nearby hospital, authorities said.
The plane, registered to Northfield Aviation in Santa Monica, had taken off from Santa Monica Airport.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board were investigating.
