Deputy faces charges of drunk driving

A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy has been charged with running a red light while driving drunk and slamming a department vehicle into a car, rendering both occupants unconscious.
Robert Andrew Moran, 42, was charged Tuesday with felony counts of driving under the influence and driving with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08% or more, causing injury. He faces a maximum of 12 years in prison if convicted.
Prosecutors said Moran was driving a Sheriff’s Department sport utility vehicle June 29, traveling south on Beach Boulevard in Stanton, when he allegedly ran a red light at Garden Grove Boulevard. His vehicle slammed into the driver’s side door of a Mazda sedan, injuring a 33-year-old man and 20-year-old woman passenger and knocking them unconscious.
It is not known if Moran, a Buena Park resident, was on duty at the time. Prosecutors will request $70,000 bail when he is arraigned next week.
