Congress to honor heart surgeon

Congress voted to award its highest civilian honor, the Congressional Gold Medal, to Dr. Michael E. DeBakey, the heart surgeon who pioneered coronary bypass surgery and other innovations that have changed modern medicine.
DeBakey, 99, performed his first successful coronary bypass operation in 1964.
