Teenage boy is shot near Vista del Lago High

A 15-year-old boy was shot Monday, but details of the incident were sketchy.

Authorities said the shooting occurred about 3:20 p.m. near the intersection of John F. Kennedy Drive and Thyme Place in the vicinity of Vista del Lago High School. The victim, who was not identified, was taken to Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley in critical condition with at least one gunshot wound to the upper body.

“It’s kind of a busy area, and there were lots of people who witnessed it,” said Deputy Javier Rodriguez. “We believe there was an altercation at the corner with no indication of any vehicles involved, [or] that it was gang-related.”
