Kings’ Change May Not Be for the Better

Seems fitting that the Kings hire an ex-cabdriver to finish the season coaching a team loaded with hacks.

Maybe now Andy Murray can seek a career in the sportswriting field, since he seemed to like bashing his players in the paper.

How convenient of Dave Taylor and Tim “Lieweke” to point the finger at their latest scapegoat, Andy Murray.

Murray wasn’t the one who let power-play stars Mathieu Schneider, Philippe Boucher, Jason Allison and Martin Straka get away. Nor was he the general manager who has failed to acquire one legitimate No. 1 goaltender over a nine-year tenure.

Murray also wasn’t responsible for replacing the concussion-plagued Allison and Adam Deadmarsh with the far more expensive and older Jeremy Roenick, a guy who has had seven concussions and two years ago almost retired because of them.

Murray wasn’t the one saying, “I am happy with our team,” when it was free-falling in the standings at the end of the first half, with one of the worst special teams in the league.

Murray has been squeezing blood out of the turnip known as the Los Angeles Kings for seven years to the amazement of the rest of the hockey world. Here’s hoping the head turnips (Taylor and Leiweke) get pulled as soon as possible.

Interesting, isn’t it, that Tuesday the Kings fired Andy Murray when the deadline for playoff ticket and season renewal was Monday?

Coincidence? I think not.

As we gathered around the sports page Wednesday morning, reading about the Murray firing, my 9-year-old noted the journalistic silver lining in yet another disappointing King season: “Hey, we made the front page!”

I would like to be among the first to congratulate Andy Murray on winning the Stanley Cup. It’s only a matter of time before he is snatched up by a team with owners committed to winning (and not just the bottom line).

I can’t decide who made the worse decision, Dave Taylor for firing Andy or me for purchasing my playoff tickets. Anyone need two in the lower bowl?
