Officials Seek Federal Aid for Hmong Refugees

Scrambling to prepare for thousands of new Hmong refugees who have started arriving in the Central Valley, officials here and in other area cities have stepped up pressure on the Bush administration for additional federal money to help with the resettlement.
The Central Valley, home to more than 50,000 Hmong refugees, is set to receive as many as 5,000 more in the coming year, when thousands arrive from a camp in Thailand.
The first wave of new refugees began arriving in July.
