Yes, that’s the Patti Page, the legendary country-pop singer who made “Tennessee Waltz” a smash hit in 1950 and may well still be the industry’s top-selling female vocalist, with 100 million-plus records sold to date. She’s in her 70s, so her voice isn’t as supple, but her eloquent, sweet phrasing is unsurpassed, bringing lullaby tenderness and warmth to this collection of gentle traditional and pop songs that range from “Hush Little Baby” to another Page trademark, “(How Much Is) That Doggie in the Window.”

Hey, Mr. Spaceman
Music for Little People
CD: $15.98, Cassette: $9.98
Ages 4 to 12

These bouncy vocal and instrumental rock ‘n’ roll tunes include the retro-cool (The Byrds’ “Mr. Spaceman”), the off-the-wall obscure and zany (Jimmy Durante singing “We’re Going UFO’ing”) and Maria Muldaur’s old-time rendition of Dan Hicks’ “Heck I’d Go” (“Hey, you UFO guy/ how’d you make that thing fly?”). Ella Fitzgerald sings a jazzy “Two Little Men in a Flying Saucer”; L.J. Booth contributes a mellow, dreamy note with “Mr. Moon”; and the B-52s romp through “Planet Claire.”
