Elliott Smith in mind

Solutions in Silver Lake is running out of wall space. A mural from the audio-video store on Sunset Boulevard was featured on the cover of Elliott Smith’s last album, “Figure 8,” and it’s become an impromptu memorial site for fans of the late singer. As news of his death spread, devotees from all over brought candles and cards and inscribed the outside wall with their tributes to Smith, who died last week of an apparent suicide. Smith’s family is considering holding a memorial at Solutions. “Even though Elliott was in pain, he was one of the nicest people ever,” says director Steve Hanft, a close friend of Smith’s. “He loved to laugh at ridiculous things. He loved talking about rock ‘n’ roll.... He got so excited about it. He was into everything from the Velvet Underground to Blue Oyster Cult to George Jones. He was more than just a gifted songwriter, he was a great friend and champion to the underdog. He will be missed dearly.” A memorial show benefiting charity is planned Monday at the Fonda Theatre, with performances by Beck, Beth Orton and Rilo Kiley, among others.... And speaking of Beck, the singer is headlining a KCRW bash at the Universal Amphitheatre on Nov. 22. Jurassic 5, Damien Rice and Felix da Housecat are also slated to perform.

Boswell, who says he created the clothing line in 1994, is gearing up to sue his former business partners, who he claims cut him out of the deal.
